A Look Ahead to Chargers' First OTA

Posted May 26, 2014

The San Diego Chargers hold the first of 10 Organized Team Activities this week.

The start of the 2014 season inches closer as the San Diego Chargers hold the first of 10 Organized Team Activities (OTAs) this week before minicamp in mid-June.

OTAs mark the first time this offseason that the offense and defense can practice against each other.  11-on-11, 9-on-7, and 7-on-7 drills are permitted, but any form of live contact is not allowed.   What makes the first week of OTAs particularly exciting is that it gives the first glimpse of the coaches’ plans for the upcoming season.  For instance, it wasn’t until OTA’s last year that we found out Marcus Gilchrist was switching from cornerback to safety. Also, while the rookies had a taste of the NFL last weekend during rookie minicamp, they become fully ingrained in the team by practicing alongside the veterans.

Head Coach Mike McCoy and select players will also take the podium following Tuesday’s session, which is the lone day the outside media can be present.  However, we’ll give you an inside look all week long with daily practice snapshots as well as additional coverage of the start of OTAs.

The team will be on the field Tuesday through Thursday, but Friday is another big day for the Chargers with single game tickets going on sale.  For the first time ever the team has introduced variable pricing.

Now, you can stay in touch with the team anytime, anywhere, on your mobile device with the official app of the San Diego Chargers.
