Fourth Quarter: Chargers 37 – Chiefs 20

Scoring Plays

7:54 – Jackie Battle catches a short out route for a 4-yard touchdown.

5:29 – Matt Cassel passes a deep ball to Dwayne Bowe for a 29-yard touchdown.

1:56 – Nick Novak nails a 45-yard field goal from the middle of the field.

Big Plays

13:50 – Quentin Jammer forces a fumble with a big hit near the right hash and it is recovered by Atari Bigby.

3:26 – Ryan Mathews breaks a few tackles up the middle for a 15-yard gain for a big 1st down.

Third Quarter: San Diego 27– Kansas City Chiefs 13

8:48 - On 3rd-and-12 from the 13 yard line, Matt Cassel threw short to Jamaal Charles, who evaded defenders as he dove over the pylon for a touchdown.

Big Plays

14:17 – Steve Breaston converted on a 3rd-and-10 with an acrobatic catch along the right sideline.

11:47 – Donald Butler continued his strong game, combining with Larry English for a sack of Matt Cassel for a loss of seven.

10:19 – Shaun Draughn caught a short pass to the right and made a number of defenders miss for an 18-yard gain up to the 12 yard line.

7:11 – On 3rd-and-9, Philip Rivers dropped back in shotgun formation and tried to find Eddie Royal on a quick slant, but the ball was deflected away by Javier Arenas and the Bolts were forced to punt.

6:19 – Faced with a 3rd-and-7, the Chargers badly needed a stop and got one when Antoine Cason broke up a pass intended for Dwayne Bowe.

4:49 – Following a sack, the Chargers stared down a 3rd-and-11.  The Chiefs brought the heat and Rivers was taken down by Tamba Hali at the two-yard line.

2:56 – On 3rd-and-3, Cassel had Bowe wide open, but the quarterback overthrew him and the Chiefs punted the ball away

1:16 – Needing one yard on third down, the Chargers handed it to Le’Ron McClain, who was stuffed at the line of scrimmage.

 

Second Quarter: San Diego 27– Kansas City Chiefs 6

Scoring Plays

8:13 – Nick Novak hit his second field goal of the day, this one a 47-yard blast for a 20-0 lead.

5:22 - Jamal Charles looked like he was stuffed for a loss on a toss to the right, but he cut back and reversed field for a 37-yard touchdown. The team botched the extra point however and it was 20-6.

2:59 – Donald Butler showed quick hands to pick off a ball tipped by Tony Moeaki.  Butler returned the ball 21-yards for the pick six and a 27-6 lead.

Big Plays

12:50 –Matt Cassel hit Dwayne Bowe for a big gain on 3rd-and-4 that was called back for illegal formation.  On 3rd-and-9, Shaun Phillips came flying off the edge for a strip sack that the Chiefs recovered, but the home team was forced to punt.

11:14 – Philip Rivers hit Antonio Gates perfectly in stride, and the All Pro tight end made defenders miss on his way to a 33-yard gain into Chiefs territory.

8:57 – On 3rd-and-5, Rivers threw a quick slant to Eddie Royal that came up one yard shy of the first down.

8:09 – Vaughn Martin forced another Jamaal Charles fumble with a big hit, and Corey Liuget recovered it at the Chiefs 28-yard line.

7:37 - Faced with a 3rd-and-6, Rivers dropped back in shotgun formation and looked for Robert Meachem, but Brandon Flowers had strong coverage and came up with the interception.

3:49 – On 3rd-and-14, Rivers completed a pass to Eddie Royal well short of the first down marker and the Bolts were forced to punt.

1:54 – The Chiefs picked up the Bolts blitz and completed a 26-yard pass into San Diego’s side of the field.

0:49 – Antoine Cason caught the deflected pass off the hands of Dexter McCluster for the interception, and returned it 31 yards to the Chargers 44 yard line.

 

First Quarter: San Diego 17– Kansas City Chiefs 0

Scoring Plays

10:08 – On a well-designed play, Philip Rivers hit Eddie Royal over the middle for a four-yard touchdown reception to give the Chargers the early score.

6:29 – Nick Novak extended the bolts lead to 10-0 with a 24-yard field goal.

5:32 – Two plays after forcing their second turnover of the game, Jackie Battle plunged into the end zone from one-yard out to put the Chargers up 17-0.

Big Plays

12:46 – On 3rd-and-10, Philip Rivers went looking for Antonio Gates, who was interfered with to give the Bolts a first down.

11:50 –Faced with a 3rd-and-12, Rivers looked for the reliable Malcom Floyd for a gain of 21 yards.

8:53 – After two completions gave the Chiefs a first down, Eric Weddle made a great play on the ball to pick off Matt Cassel up the left sideline. He weaved his way up field for a 21-yard return to the Chiefs 28 yard line.

6:38 -  On 3rd-and-2, Rivers rolled to his right and attempted to hit Royal in the back of the end zone, but the receiver was tightly covered by two defenders and the ball fell incomplete.

6:21 – The defense came up with another huge turnover as Takeo Spikes stripped Jamaal Charles, and Shaun Phillips recovered the ball on the five-yard line.

4:04 – On 3rd-and-3, Cassel hit Dexter McCluster for four yards and a first down.

3:30 – Faced with another third down, Cassel threw to Jonathan Baldwin, who was tackled by Phillips seven yards shy of the first down.

1:23 – On 3rd-and-6 from their own 10-yard line, Rivers hit Ronnie Brown on a wheel route for a gain of 21 yards.
