San Diego Chargers Head Coach Mike McCoy finalized his coaching staff today with the additions of Nick Sirianni as quarterbacks coach; Bobby King as assistant linebackers coach; and Shane Steichen as quality control-offense.

Sirianni was promoted to coach the quarterbacks, after serving as a quality control assistant on offense last season. He originally joined the Chargers from the Kansas City Chiefs, where he spent 2009-11 as the quality control coach, including his last season in Kansas City (2012) as the Chiefs’ wide receivers coach. In 2010 he worked specifically with the Chiefs’ quarterbacks and helped Matt Cassel achieve All-Pro honors. Sirianni, 32, replaces Frank Reich—who the Bolts recently elevated to offensive coordinator—and is in his 6th NFL season and second with the Chargers.

A native of Jamestown, N.Y., Sirianni won three NCAA Division III National Championships (2000-02) as a wide receiver at the University of Mount Union in Alliance, Ohio. A three-year starter, he earned All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors as a senior after a career-high 13 touchdown catches. Sirianni spent one season (2004) playing arena football in the Atlantic Indoor Football League with the Canton Legends before transitioning into coaching. He coached defensive backs at Mt. Union during the 2004-05 seasons and helped lead the Purple Raiders to another national title in 2005.

Sirianni’s brother, Jay, is the head coach at their alma mater, Southwestern Central High School in Jamestown, N.Y. They won state championships in 2008 and ’09. And brother Mike is the head coach at Washington and Jefferson College in Washington, Pa. A four-time conference coach of the year, Mike’s .816 winning percentage (93-21) is fifth among all active NCAA football coaches (all levels) with at least five years of experience.

King joins the Chargers from the Houston Texans, where he also was the assistant linebackers coach. He was a defensive assistant in 2011 with the Texans and was promoted in March 2012. He is currently in his fourth NFL season and first with the Chargers. King is replacing Byron Storer, who resigned to pursue opportunities outside of football.

In 2011, King’s contributions with the Texans helped produce the third-largest defensive improvement in NFL history since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger. The Texans ranked second in the NFL in total defense with 285.7 yards per game after giving up 376.9 yards per game and ranking 30th in 2010.

Prior to the Texans, King served as the defensive quality control/assistant linebackers coach for the Dallas Cowboys in 2010.

Prior to his tenure in Dallas, King was the defensive line coach at West Texas A&M University in 2008-09, and helped the 2009 team reach its first bowl game since 1967.

From 2006-07, King worked with the defensive line as a graduate assistant at Baylor. In 2005, King ended his first stint at WTAMU by helping the team win the Lone Star Conference championship and make the school’s first NCAA Division II Playoff appearance.

King began his coaching career as a student assistant at his alma mater, Texas-El Paso, working with the defensive line from 2002-03. He was a three-year letter winner and two-year starter at UTEP on the defensive line from 1998-2000.

King, 35, and his wife, Elizabeth, have a son, Jack Robert, who was born in March 2012.

Steichen returns to the Chargers after spending the previous season (2013) with the Cleveland Browns as offensive quality control coach. Steichen served as a defensive assistant from 2011-2012 during his first stint in San Diego. Prior to joining the Chargers, he spent the 2010 season as an offensive assistant at the University of Louisville following three seasons at his alma mater, the University of Nevada – Las Vegas, as a student graduate assistant (2007) and an offensive graduate assistant (2008-09).

A native of Sacramento, Calif., Steichen played quarterback at Oak Ridge High School in Dorado Hills, Calif., earning MVP honors from the Sacramento Bee in 2002 after leading the Trojans to conference championship and a CIF sectional title. A four-year letterman (2003-06) as a quarterback at UNLV, Steichen passed for 2,755 career yards with 22 touchdowns. He earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism and media studies. His older brother Sean, was a punter at Boise State. Steichen, 28, is married (Nina).
