Chargers Players Pose for a Great Cause

Posted Jun 18, 2013

The San Diego Chargers took to the fields at Chargers Park today to shoot photos for their seventh annual “Join the Team” 13-month calendar.

The Chargers produce the calendar in conjunction with the County of San Diego HHSA Foster and Adoptive Resource Family Services and KFMB-TV/CBS 8.  The aim of the project is to generate awareness of foster children and adoptive services.

For each photo, a player is partnered with a kid or group of kids.  They strike a variety of poses replete with football equipment. The calendars are then distributed free of charge at events like the Chargers Blood Drive and during a home game in December.

Some of the Chargers that took part in today’s photo shoot included D.J. Fluker, Corey Liuget and Donald Butler.  They each spoke of how getting to spend time with the children before and during the shoot is an experience they will cherish for a long time.

“Today was a good day,” said Liuget. “To see the smile on those kids faces, it brightens up their day and makes them feel loved and wanted somewhere in the world.  We took a bunch of fun photos.  My favorite was when he was pushing against the bag vs. me.  He had some power to him!  He seemed really hyped and enthusiastic about it.

Fluker agreed with his teammate, that although he is new to the Chargers and the NFL, he is already impressed by how much the Bolts give back to the community.

“This says a lot about our football team,” said the first-round draft pick. “We want to come out and help everybody, showing how we care about our fans and the city. It was a lot of fun taking pictures with the kid.  We took a picture where he pretended to toss me in the air, which was pretty cool.”

Be on the lookout in the coming months for more information about how you can pick up one of these calendars on Chargers.com.
