Posted Jun 16, 2014

The Bolts bolstered the secondary with rookie safety Adrian Phillips.

The San Diego Chargers added depth to the secondary on Monday, signing rookie safety Adrian Phillips.  The team waived running back D.J. Adams to make room on the roster.

Phillips is a 5-11, 210-pound safety out of Texas. He appeared in 50 games with 28 starts over four years, recording 206 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 11 passes defensed, six interceptions, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. The defensive captain started all 13 games at safety in 2013 and was an honorable mention All-Big 12 selection, ranking second on the team in tackles (82) and first in solo tackles (50). Phillips brings versatility to the secondary too, having played cornerback during his time with the Longhorns as well.
