Chris Watt Blog: I'm Living My Dream

Posted Aug 12, 2014

Rookie third-round pick Chris Watt checks in with this week's player blog.

The following was submitted by rookie guard Chris Watt.

My first training camp is coming to a close, but it’s been a great experience so far because I get to compete with the best every day. So I’m living my dream because I’m in the NFL and get to play the game I love.

I’ve learned a lot from my teammates and couldn’t ask for anything more.  Guys like Nick Hardwick are teaching me how to play the game the right way.  And then I’m picking up different things that some of the guards do like Chad Rinehart, Jeromey Clary, Johnnie Troutman and Rich Ohrnberger. Coach D’Alessandris is a great coach too.  He has a lot of focus and has been coaching for a long time.  He knows every coaching technique possible, so he knows what works and what doesn’t.  So just listening to him you can really learn a lot.

I wasn’t able to play in our first preseason game, but I can’t wait for my first game as a Charger.  I’m really looking forward to just playing football again in a game situation. It’s been a while so I’m looking forward to getting out there and competing my butt off. It’s an honor to wear that bolt on my helmet.  It’s been a lifelong dream to run out on an NFL game and play for an NFL team.  I’m fortunate to be a Charger so I will go out there and do my best.

We don’t get a lot of free time in training camp, but when we do I like to go to the movies.  I saw a preview of “Let’s Be Cops” with some of my teammates the other day so that was fun.  I really like it here in San Diego overall because of the people, and of course weather, so I am also looking forward to exploring more.

Anyway, thanks for letting me write this week’s blog entry.  I do appreciate all your support.  I can’t wait to go out there on Sundays and represent the Chargers.
