Draft Day One Total Recap: Bolts Nab Jason Verrett

Posted May 9, 2014

All the articles, videos, photos and behind the scenes access from day one of the Chargers NFL Draft.

With the NFL Draft pushed back two weeks, we had to wait longer than ever to find out who the San Diego Chargers would add in the NFL Draft.  It turned out the wait was worth it as the team was excited to nab TCU CB Jason Verrett with the 25th overall pick.  Here are all the articles, videos, photos and behind-the-scenes access from a busy night at Chargers Park.

It all began hours earlier when General Manager Tom Telesco let us inside the War Room to snap some photos of the braintrust in action.

As soon as Verrett was announced as the pick, we reposted the cornerback's prospect profile from a few months prior.  Then, Telesco emerged from the War Room to tell us exactly what went into the decision to select Verrett.

Minutes after being drafted, Verrett called Chargers.com for his first exclusive interview as a member of the Bolts.  He addressed what makes him a valuable player, how he plans to fit in and made it clear he wanted to land in San Diego.

Shortly thereafter he skyped with members of the media before Telesco and Head Coach Mike McCoy spoke in the team meeting room.

Both Telesco and McCoy emphasized they are fans of Verrett's passion and toughness.  They also are excited about the speed he will bring to the secondary.

We took to Twitter to get the reaction of teammates and fans to the Verrett selection.  Perhaps no one was happier than Shareece Wright, who said he was hoping the team would add the TCU corner.

Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Spanos gave us a scout's perspective on Verrett and explained what we can expect from him now that he is a Charger.  Also, be sure to watch the other videos ranging from Verrett greeting Commisioner Roger Goodell to breaking down his own game.

Finally, check out the photos of Verrett on stage at Radio City Music Hall as well as him in action from his days at TCU.

For more on Verrett, be sure to check out Draft Central and download our mobile app for complete coverage of the draft.

Now, you can stay in touch with the team anytime, anywhere, on your mobile device with the official app of the San Diego Chargers.
