It's Official: Max Starks Joins Chargers O-Line

Posted May 21, 2013

The San Diego Chargers landed tackle Max Starks via free agency today.

From the moment they were hired back in January, General Manager Tom Telesco and Head Coach Mike McCoy preached their devotion to improving the Chargers roster.

They made good on that promise Tuesday, signing left tackle Max Starks as they continue to revamp the team’s offensive line.

The 31-year old Starks is entering his 10th NFL season after spending his first nine years with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was drafted by them in the third round of the 2004 draft and has gone on to play in 123 games, making 96 starts.  Starks has started every game he’s played in dating back to 2009, and has experience at both tackle positions. The massive tackle made headlines last season by recovering in time to begin the 2012 campaign after suffering a torn ACL just months earlier in the playoffs. Not only did Starks make each start for Pittsburgh, he also played each offensive snap. An anchor of the offensive line, the Steelers won two Super Bowls and three AFC Conference titles during his tenure in the Steel City.

A 6-foot-8, 345-pounder out of Florida, Starks is a big, physical presence who will now be tasked with protecting Philip Rivers’ blind side.  Overall, he brings tremendous experience, durability and a nasty streak to the offensive line. Between Starks and first-round draft choice D.J. Fluker, the team has added 684 pounds of brute force to the tackle positions within the last month.

Now, you can stay in touch with the team anytime, anywhere, on your mobile device with the official app of the San Diego Chargers.
