Looking Back on Week One of Phase One

Posted Apr 8, 2013

Take a look back at what went on at Chargers Park during week one of phase one for the San Diego Chargers.

Last week, the majority of the San Diego Chargers came in early and got to meet with the coaching staff for the first time during phase one of the offseason conditioning program.

It all began with Head Coach Mike McCoy addressing his squad in the team meeting room before they hit the weights and ran the fields.  One of the major topics he talked about was change and embracing the culture change he plans on incorporating.  Hear what he had to say by watching the video below.

A pair of players also addressed the media last Monday as Nick Hardwick and Donald Butler gave an inside glimpse into the current state of the Chargers. Read what Hardwick had to say about the team’s impression of McCoy.  Then, click here to see what Butler had to say about taking on a leadership role on defense this season.

A major part of phase one is the work in the weight room.  McCoy afforded us exclusive access  to be in there with the team, so you can watch the offense working out right here and the defense lifting right here.

In this week’s BoltsCast, Jordan Beane and I discussed the early stages of phase one and then chatted with safety Darrell Stuckey about how the workouts have gone thus far.  You can watch the video below.

One player who is particularly excited to be back at Chargers Park is Johnnie Troutman, the second-year offensive guard who missed his entire rookie season recovering from a pectoral injury.  Click here to get his thoughts on being healthy and ready to contribute in 2013.

Finally, in a unique story unrelated to the football field, the Chargers own Logan Harrell found himself in the national spotlight by assisting in the recovery of a missing hiker. You can read all about his heroics right here.

Today, the Chargers are back in the building for the final week of phase one and next week, the team will hold a voluntary veteran mini-camp. The NFL allows clubs that have a new head coach to have an additional camp in order to acclimate the team to the coach's system and better get to know the players. Be sure to keep tuning in to Chargers.com for all your Bolts news.

Now, you can stay in touch with the team anytime, anywhere, on your mobile device with the official app of the San Diego Chargers.
