Path to the Draft Part One: Scouting Combine

Posted Apr 3, 2013

In part one of our ‘Path to the Draft’ feature, Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Spanos breaks down the Scouting Combine

The NFL Draft is in exactly 22 days, but the preparation for it started a long, long time ago.

In fact, the groundwork for this year’s raft began just a month after the 2012 draft ended. Scouts begin their prep work on which players they want to assess then hit the ground running once college football season begins traveling all over the country to watch games and evaluate prospects. During that time, the scouting staff will grade the players and then use the annual NFL Scouting Combine in February to confirm their grades for each of their prospects.

Part one of our ‘Path to the Draft’ feature with Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Spanos details this important part of the evaluation process along with insight into how the Chargers approach the combine, from  their all-important  interview process to  what he calls “data collection” on each player that attends.

Watch the video above to hear what Spanos had to say.
