Some say that Zack Martin has the makings of a standout tackle.  Others argue he is best suited at guard.  Despite those differing opinions, they all agree that he is a top notch prospect who has a bright future in the NFL no matter where he lines up.

Martin started all 52 games he played at Notre Dame, which was a new school record for the famed university.  Only the 18th two-time captain in the Fighting Irish’s storied history, he was a 2011 and 2012 FBC All-Independent Team selection. He started 50 of his 52 games at left tackle, making two starts on the right side during his freshman year in 2010. Martin was also named the MVP of last year’s Pinstripe Bowl.

Playing with fundamental technique combined with raw power and quickness, Martin’s versatility is on constant display.  Analysts laud his nifty footwork as well as his balance, which they say help him gain advantageous leverage.  With many wondering if Martin will be better at tackle or guard, he lined up at both positions during the Senior Bowl and dominated both spots.  The 6-4, 308-pounder is also a natural leader who holds his teammates accountable.

Detractors point to a small wingspan, a short reach and a need to bulk up.  Still, Martin’s skillset reminds some of Logan Mankins, who has been a stalwart offensive lineman for the Patriots since entering the league.  As such, he is projected to be a high draft choice on May 8th
