Name: Khalil Mack
Weight: 251 pounds
Position: Outside Linebacker
One of the top pass rushers in this year’s draft comes from one of the tiniest colleges.
Khalil Mack spent the past four seasons honing his craft at Buffalo. While the school is not known to be a hotbed of NFL talent, the outside linebacker is proving to have an elite set of skills that has him set to be a top pick in the 2014 draft.
A three time All-MAC selection that has been well known for years in the scouting community, Mack burst onto the scene nationally with a standout performance against Ohio State this past season. He notched nine tackles, 2.5 sacks and returned an interception for a touchdown in the contest. The senior was a second team All-American selection after posting 100 tackles, 10.5 sacks, five forced fumbles and three interceptions. His final year was the cherry on
The outside linebacker is a physical specimen at 6-3, 251 pounds. His natural instincts help him diagnose plays instantaneously, and his explosive first step allows him to get to the ball carrier quickly. He jolts his opponent upon impact, which is part of the reason he has been so proficient at jarring the ball loose. Mack is a natural pass rusher who flies by linemen with an arsenal of moves. Although better pressuring the quarterback, he is also deft dropping back in coverage. He also has great range against the run with a nonstop motor in pursuit.
While there weren’t many fans able to watch Mack in action during his time in Buffalo, odds are that they’ll see plenty of him on Sundays for years to come.
