We continue the series with a scouting report of USC’s Marqise Lee.
Name: Marqise Lee
Weight: 192 pounds
Position: Wide Receiver
Anyone watching USC over the last three years most likely came to the same conclusion over a certain wide receiver.
Marqise Lee radiates talent and potential.
The 6-0, 192-pounder is an exceptional athlete who is a blur with the ball. Lee has explosive straight ahead speed with nifty feet, making him extremely dangerous after the catch. He has a knack for escaping tacklers and creating additional yards at the last minute, and as a result has drawn comparisons to Victor Cruz. The wideout is also a crisp route-runner whose savvy instincts allow him to get open. He gets out of his breaks extremely quick, allowing him to create separation when covered.
Over three seasons with the Trojans, Lee caught 248 passes for 3,655 yards and 29 touchdowns. His top season came in 2012 when he led the nation with a whopping 118 catches for 1,721 yards and 14
Lee’s talent isn’t just limited to catching the ball though. He’s also been a weapon in the running game, attempting 24 rushes over his career for 146 yards, averaging 6.1 yards per carry. As a returner, he’s brought back 50 kickoffs for 1,305 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 26.1 yards per return.
While he has a decent frame, some knock his size. He has also dealt with ball security issues, and although he was never injured prior to 2013, some experts wonder if it will become a lingering issue. Still, there is no denying his unique skillset leading many to believe Lee will be one of the top wide receivers selected on May 8th.
