It’s impossible not to be impressed when watching Sammy Watkins in action.

Blessed with a muscular 6-1,211-pound frame, he has a knack for coming up with the big catch.  He isn’t afraid to fight for the ball, often attacking it rather than waiting for it to reach him.  Once the ball is in his hands, Watkins is a threat to go the distance as he constantly makes defenses pay with his excellent run-after-the-catch ability.   He possesses top-end speed, running a 4.43 at the Combine, and excels at every route on the route tree.

That’s why many experts are hyping him as the top wide receiver prospect since A.J Green and Julio Jones back in 2011.

All Watkins did during his three year tenure at Clemson was rewrite the record books, becoming the school’s all-time leader in receptions (240) and receiving yards (3,391). He is fresh off a dominant junior campaign that saw him snare 101 catches for 1,464 yards and 12 touchdowns. As such, Watkins was a second-team All-American pick and first-team All-ACC selection.  He also proved a clutch player by leading the Tigers to an Orange Bowl win over Ohio State with 16 catches for 227 yards.

While he’s committed some drops due to lack of focus and could use a bit more polish, Watkins has number one receiver written all over him.  He should have a big impact in the NFL immediately as a rookie as teams will need to game plan ways to stop his game breaking ability.

Combine Metrics
40-yard Dash: 4.43
Bench Press: 16 reps
Vertical Jump: 34.0 inches
Broad Jump: 126.0 inches
