Union Bank and Chargers Donate to Local Non-Profits

Posted Mar 31, 2014

Donations presented to Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego, San Diego Armed Services YMCA and San Diego Center for Children.

As part of its ongoing commitment to responsible banking and supporting the San Diego community, Union Bank, N.A., partnered with the San Diego Chargers to raise funds for local non-profit organizations over the course of the Chargers’ 2013 regular season.

Titled “Game Changers,” the fundraising program culminated with a donation presentation at Chargers Park where the San Diego Chargers joined Union Bank Senior Vice President and Regional Executive Lawrence Henry to present $15,000 ($5,000 each) to Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego, San Diego Armed Services YMCA and San Diego Center for Children.

“In the spirit of teamwork, Union Bank and the San Diego Chargers worked together with the community to raise money for these organizations that are helping children, families and members of our armed forces,” said Henry.  “We are pleased to help make a lasting change in their lives by supporting their important programs and services.”

Each group will use the donations to fund a variety of projects, including healthy lifestyle programs offered at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego, programs that make military life easier at the Armed Services YMCA, and specialized education and essential therapeutic programs for at-risk children and teens at the San Diego Center for Children.

“This is another example of outstanding support and caring hearts among Chargers fans as well as our friends from Union Bank,” said Chargers Executive Vice President and CEO A.G. Spanos.  “It’s great how something as simple as loose change can make a difference.”

Kicking off outside Qualcomm Stadium before the September 29 game against Dallas, the Game Changers fundraising program invited fans at Chargers home games to gather their loose change and dollar bills and donate to the Game Changers Change Mobile, a one-of-a-kind vehicle that can process and tabulate money donated on the spot, for a fun, interactive fundraising activity.  As part of the program, attendees also had the chance to win a variety of prizes, such as koozies and football gear signed by Chargers players, including Philip Rivers and Eric Weddle, as well as instant ticket upgrades to watch the Chargers play.
