The Chargers added a dual-threat to their arsenal when they signed former Pittsburgh tight end David Johnson in March. A seventh-round pick by the Steelers in 2009, Johnson spent time at both tight end and fullback. He played in 52 regular-season games, starting 26, and four postseason games, including Super Bowl XLV against the Green Bay Packers.

Johnson comes to San Diego looking for a fresh start. The last two seasons he was limited to just five games with two starts, missing the entire 2012 season with a knee injury and then missing 11 games in 2013 due to a wrist injury.
