Bio

For nearly two years, Jonas Mouton was chomping at the bit to take the field. He finally got his chance late in 2012 and played in three of the team’s final five games.

With some game experience under his belt and a strong showing in the team’s offseason program, Mouton was looking forward to displaying his skills in 2013. Unfortunately that enthusiasm quickly went sideways when he suffered a knee injury on the opening day of training camp. The injury required surgery and Mouton was placed on the “Reserve-Injured” list for the second time in three seasons.

Mouton is eager to repay the Chargers for their faith.

Prior to his being drafted as the Chargers’ second of two second-round picks in 2011, Mouton was the Big Ten Conference’s top tackler (117) as a fifth-year senior at Michigan in 2010. He recorded an impressive 264 total tackles as a three-year starter for the Wolverines and the Los Angeles native was a second-team All-Big Ten choice in 2010, also receiving the Wolverines’ Roger Zatkoff Award as the team’s top linebacker.

Mouton is one of the best players to hail from L.A.’s Venice High School. On the first snap of his first-ever high school game, Mouton knocked out a player from rival Carson High. And in college he was given the nickname “The Assassin” after several of the Wolverines’ foes met a similar fate.

TRANSACTION HISTORY: Second-round pick (61), April 29, 2011...signed July 28, 2011.

2012: NFL debut Dec. 2 vs. Cincinnati. 2011: Injured shoulder during preseason...placed on “Reserve-Injured” list Sept. 22.

COLLEGE: Selected as game captain three times during senior season, including finale vs. rival Ohio State...final career totals include 44 games played and 34 starts, 264 tackles, 18 tackles for loss (-56 yards), three sacks (-28 yards), four interceptions, three fumble recoveries and seven passes defensed...redshirted as freshman in 2006... played at Michigan from 2007-10...general studies degree.

PERSONAL: Born in Los Angeles, Calif.....Army All-America Bowl participant after stellar career at Venice (Calif.) High.
