Tom McConnaughey

Bio

McConnaughey became a national scout in 2008 after spending the 1998-07 seasons scouting the west and southwest. In 1997 he worked as an area scout for National Football Scouting, Inc.

A wide receiver at Spokane Falls Community College from 1975-76, McConnaughey is enshrined in the school’s Hall of Fame, along with that of the Northwestern Athletic Association of Community Colleges. He played at the University of Oregon in 1977 and he completed his eligibility at Central Arkansas, earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees in physical education. He was a grad assistant at Central Arkansas from 1980-82 and an assistant coach at Spokane Falls in '83.

McConnaughey went to training camp with New Orleans in 1981 and the New York Jets in ’82 before signing with the USFL’s New Jersey Generals in ’83. He started at wide receiver for two seasons and led the team with 42 catches for 691 yards in ’83. In 1984 he went to training camp with the Philadelphia Eagles and he signed with Minnesota in ’85, but ended up spending the season on Injured-Reserve.

In 1986, he took a coaching job at South Kitsap High School in Port Orchard, Wa. and later spent nine seasons (1988-96) as the head coach at Federal Way (Wa.) High.

McConnaughey was born in Amarillo, Texas, and now resides in Federal Way. He and his wife, Sheri, have a son, Donny, who is a sophomore free safety at Whitworth University (Spokane, Wash.), and a daughter, Monica, who is a freshman volleyball player at Lower Columbia CC (Longview, Wash.)
